ACAW 2022 – BKSK Team Presentation
Presenters:
- George Schieferdecker
- William Russell
- Nadeen Hassan
- Tony Parker
Description:
BKSK developed a highly reflective glaze for an architectural terra cotta façade brise soleil that would increase the energy harvest of integrated PV panels above it, as well as effectively shade fenestration below it.
ACAW 2022 - BNIM Team Presentation

ACAW 2022 – BNIM Team Presentation
Presenters:
- Elvis Achelpohl
- April Trotter
- Kylie Schwaller
Description:
BNIM studied an ornamental terra cotta band that can be integrated into a typical masonry rainscreen wall. The terra cotta band manifests as a decorative trim piece which is coursed into the brick rainscreen, as well as a horizontal louver which provides solar shading for windows in the façade.

ACAW 2022 – FXCollaborative Team Presentation
Presenters:
- Brian Fanning
- Gustavo Rodriguez
- Erica Alonzo
- Jessica Huang
- Brandon Massey
- Reinhard Muschler
- Ralph Forst
Description:
FXCollaborative designed a system to control and play with light through a perforated facade. A series of light channels are designed to bounce and “sculpt” light for viewing through a traditionally glazed facade.

ACAW 2022 – NADAAA Team Presentation
Presenters:
- Arthur Chang
- Christopher Battaglia
Description:
NADAAA designed an ambitious sculptural unit for a major museum exhibition. The object acts as both a pedestal for historic artifacts as well as a sculptural moment for the larger exhibit.
ACAW 2022 - Pelli Clarke & Partners Team Presentation

ACAW 2022 – Pelli Clarke & Partners Team Presentation
Presenters:
- Craig Copeland
Description:
Pelli Clarke & Partners developed outdoor/urban furniture, focusing on using terra cotta for freestanding, modular elements that can define and support outdoor space and activities. They used slip cast manufacturing to better accommodate self-supporting terra cotta fabrications in-the-round.
ACAW 2022 - Steven Holl Architects Team Presentation
Video:
ACAW 2022 – Steven Holl Architects Team Presentation
Presenters:
- Michael Haddy
- Yining He
Description:
Steven Holl Architects’ project was guided by the material exploration and aesthetic offerings of terra cotta. There are two paths being investigated here: research for the exterior use of terra cotta is focused on extruded panels for precast, while the interior project is decidedly sculptural in nature.

Presenters:
- Brett Laureys
- Nicole Declet
- Mark Kuberski
- Matthew Haberling
- Matthew Novesky
- Amanda Marshall
- Rachel Will
Description:
WJE developed a terra cotta rainscreen system that replicates a historic cornice assembly using modern thin-walled terra cotta extrusions and modular attachments. The team developed unit profiles that could be economically extruded and hung from a unique anchorage system that can be integrated into a historic masonry backup assembly in order to reduce installation costs.
